Los Gatos Wines specializes in the excellent wines of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. After having tasted and drunk these wines for the past 30 years I feel that they have been overlooked as some of the finest, undervalued, and underrated wines in California. In particular, Ridge Vineyards' Monte Bello 1971 wine won the Judgement of Paris's 30th Anniversary wine competition in 2006. This is quite astounding when you consider that many people still feel that California wines don't age as well as those from France and the wine was compared with some of the premier cru Bordeaux wines as well as top Napa wines of the day.
In addition, we will have a small (but hopefully growing) section of "old and rare" wines. We are looking forward to scouring the world to find these wines so that we can make them available to you, our customers.
Finally, we'll have a nice selection of wines from other areas that we have found particularly interesting for some reason. We will tend to select from small wineries that you probably haven't heard of.
Los Gatos Wines was founded by Ted Schroeder, a software engineer with a great passion for wine. Tim Schroeder, son of Ted Schroeder, and a Certified Sommelier who re-ignited Ted's passion for wine upon turning 21. And Oscar Deits, a web developer and great friend of the family, who adds his unique appreciation and taste for wine to the mix.
